Kingdom of God

Царство Божие

Foremost verse of the promise of God to meet the needs of His children is in Matthew 6:33 which says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be provided unto you.” This verse is an incredible promise, but with emphasis on God’s provision, we often lose sight of other significant issues of Kingdom Living.

When Jesus spoke, he declared the reality of a new and a different kingdom. The mention of His Kingdom, declares that there is more to His kingdom; our carnal minds cannot fathom it, we cannot see it, feel it or hear it. The prophet Isaiah warned of those who had eyes but could not see and ears but could not hear. Jesus battled throughout His ministry the temptation that many in Israel embraced to make Him a military or political leader to deliver them from Roman occupation. When Jesus was asked why he taught in parables, He explained that spiritual truth is a secret that cannot be understood by those dominated by material things and calloused hearts (Matt. 13).

In order to seek the kingdom, one has to understand what a kingdom is. In today’s society, most hate kingdoms and love freedom. The kingdom of God embraces all created intelligence, both in heaven and earth that are willingly subject to the Lord and are in fellowship with Him. The kingdom of God is, therefore, universal in that it includes created angels and men. It is eternal, as God is eternal, and it is spiritual—found within all born-again believers. We enter the kingdom of God when we are born again, and we are then part of that kingdom for eternity. It is a relationship “born of the spirit” (John 3:5), and we have confident assurance that it is so because the Spirit bears witness with our spirits (Romans 8:16).

By using the military imagery of kingdom, instead of family, home, or town, Jesus intends for us to appreciate that His kingdom is not only different from others, but His kingdom has enemies. You have an enemy who is opposed to Christ and His followers. To live in ignorance of spiritual warfare is the most naïve and dangerous thing a person can do.

Likewise, everything in us prefers comfort. Today’s society likes better and bigger cars, faster food, larger and luxurious houses. Although, nothing is comfortable in faith, on the contrary, we were made to be the watchmen of His Kingdom, to fight the evil. We are in a fight against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

God tells us “You are My battle-ax and weapons of war: For with you I will break the nation in pieces; With you I will destroy kingdoms (Jeremiah 51:20). We have to leave our comfort, start looking for intimacy with our lord, allow to be broken by God, (your pride, your ambitions, your ignorance, etc.,) because in that moment you will discover how strong you can be… your strength is perfected in the moment of your weakness.

During those moments of intimacy, you will start to hear God speak to you. He created us for a relationship, and He actually misses our fellowship. It is in those moments when you sacrifice everything else for some time with Him that he will touch your soul, he will speak to you in a still quite voice.

Jesus is the ruler of a new kingdom, and he calls His followers to make pursuing His kingdom a priority. We are called to “seek first” the kingdom of God. The New Living Translation says, “make the kingdom of God your primary concern.” The word “first” is not a reference to time but quality. “The sense of above all things is obvious in Matthew 6:33, for Jesus is not teaching that we should seek the kingdom first and then other things, but that there should be and exclusive orientation to the divine kingdom and righteousness.” (Kittel, Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, p.966).

Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day. Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:17-18. Find your purpose in the Kingdom assignment. Develop a passion and He will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; He will counsel you with His eye upon you. Psalm 32:8. Start walking like a Prince beside Jesus. God will not give His Prince more responsibility and the Prince/Princess can handle the responsibilities already give.
