Immanuel

I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God is interested in us personally. So much so, that he personally gave us this sign. We know what that sign was – Jesus coming to live as God with us. His presence is God’s presence. His life is God’s sign. The miracle of his conception is God’s mystery and also his statement of grace for us was revealed through a virgin who brought forth a son, and they named him Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. The prophesy of Isaiah 7:14 has been fulfilled “The Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will conceive and bear a Son and shall call His name Immanuel.”

“Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” The LORD Almighty has sworn, “Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.” Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, He confirmed it with an oath… it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure…

Thus says our Father, “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him and He will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed. (Isaiah 28:16) Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! For so greatly did God love the world that He gave His only Son, that everyone who trusts in Him may not perish but may have the Life of Ages. He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. Jesus, was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. Hear this, everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved. Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.” For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will– to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

Moreover, you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession — to the praise of His glory. But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.

Joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation. You are God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, accept the Holy Spirit in you. Start doing His will to reconcile those who are ignorant of truth.

I pray out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.

Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. (Ephesians 6:10-18)

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of His mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ Jesus when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.

To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy– to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
