The Kingdom Rock

The Rock I was standing in wonder and admiration, as I beheld a phenomenon of nature. Before me was a sizable, great hill of stone and multitudes of green life on it. But it consisted of smaller boulders, on which smaller stone and rocks were flourishing with algae, moss and other green life. The spectacle was marvelous, astonishing and incredible: the chain of rocks continued in to small sized pebbles which also had green life on it. I was filled with a sensation of impression and a commotion stirred within me as an awareness of the Holy Spirit became more sensed. A verse from Deuteronomy 32:4 came to memory; “The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.

In an antecedent thought, we were created in the Image of Our Lord God, thus we are stones as well. Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed (Isaiah 28:16). Jesus is the cornerstone; And as he said to Peter, “That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” He says the same to all of us. Paul adds to this illustration: “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:19-22)

A Rock is a firm and an immovable thing, good for a foundation: “He is like a man which built an house, and laid the foundation on a rock,” Luke 6:48 and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. That which is built upon a Rock, stands sure in a tempestuous and stormy season: “And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock,” Matthew 7:25. Precious stones and jewels are but as it were the sweat of rocks. All rich mines of gold and silver are in and among Rocks. Likewise in Christ are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, all the graces of the Spirit, (which are compared to, but far more excellent than gold, pearl, or precious stones) are only to be found in this spiritual Rock.

That celestial stream, spring, and river of comfort, the Spirit, proceeds from the throne of God, and the Lamb, Revelation 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. From this Rock, writes the apostle, the clear and crystalline streams of living water bubble forth.

Let’s go Church, wake up and start been open to the elements of the Kingdom, as well as the Wind of the Holy Spirit pollinating life on the representative of the large Stone Hill.

  1. Really great observation and insight. Just as no two rocks are exactly alike, no two believers are exactly alike. We are all being changed into the image of JESUS. I really loved your reference to the wise man and the foolish man. Both built their houses, or their lives, on two different types of foundations. On both lives the rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on them. But the life that was built on hearing the words of JESUS and doing them stood. Again, great post.
