In the beginning of the year 2016, most people do a new year resolution. I went in to a private room, closed the door and read proverbs 3:1-35. “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So, you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Then I prayed. Father of Glory, Grant me your spirit of wisdom and revelation for my knowledge of You. I want my heart and eyes to be enlightened only by you, to know what is hope of your inheritance, riches of your glory and your power, to believe and trust. I want to use this year to develop a radical trust in you; but for you to be glorified through my life. Let my life this year be a walking testament of your glory. I beg you, to show me your Glory, that is if I found favor in your eyes. Develop that trust in to you.
Little did I know, that this prayer became a vow of my heart for my Lord. Within months, I had no way to pay my bills, my wife and I still had a car with a portion of payments on it. One day, she calls me and says “honey, they are taking our car”. A few hours later I am home, sitting at the space where the Rav4 Limited used to be parked. Multiple sorts of emotion swelled up in me, then a still voice says “trust in me”. Tears formed in my eyes as I started to worship God and thank Him for what he has prepared for us. We started looking for a hoopty on craigslist, then one night I get a text from an acquaintance, who since became a friend. He sends me a few pics of family sized cars, and says” choose one, and I will help you get it”. Within days, we had a vehicle just a year older than the rav4, same size, in great condition, with just a tune up to do.
Subsequent to the prayer, as well as the experience with the car, a season started in our lives where we would make payments on utilities, rent but would have no money in our budget for food. Now, this season is on and off through the past year, and I will summarize it. It came to a point, where I knew Every time this season begins. Before it, we get friendly calls with emotional support- hard pressing us to apply for social and health services; such as food stamps, financial assistance, etc. Then when I state that I have been called to radical faith and dependence on the lord, not Egypt- I get accused of spiritual pride then I get a friendly good bye. Within days, I have no money for food. Finally, after getting tired, I will call upon the vow of radical faith. The result, money in the mailbox, somebody coming up and saying “accept this gift from papa”, with amounts to cover rent, vehicle maintenance, food and bills. Or a brother will come with a box full of groceries, a sister with groceries to cover a couple of weeks. Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie. My God has taught me and kept me in perfect peace, because my mind is stayed on Him and because I trust in Him. Brothers and sisters, trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.
In conclusion, I would like to say; there are more miracles that with the Lord permission, or enlightenment I shall share. But at the moment, I believe there are a few out there who need this encouragement. Some of you are about to make a leap of faith, some are going through a season where your faith is developed. This is the most amazing time of my life, because I learned to trust in Him like I have not before. I’ve experienced miracles in my life I only read, but the most important thing, I’ve honed in on His voice and developed an understanding of his speech and his way of instruction. Jesus calls us to a radical faith. In all that we have learned so far in terms of the call to a new identity, a new ethic and new values, the underlying call is Christ’s call to a radical faith. Embrace it, for it will be the most amazing testimony of your lives. Jesus is calling us back to the original faith relationship with himself for which he created us in the first place. It is a relationship in which we trust him absolutely and trust in ourselves not at all; it is a relationship in which he is our God – not us; it is a relationship in which we depend entirely upon him, and do not seek to be independent from him. One, it will help us through the times we are about to witness, and two, other will learn to follow Jesus, bowing their knees in awe and worship- not out of fear. He deserves the Glory, and we only partner with Him to glorify His Father.
May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
